Heart Attacks

Her heart didn’t get any blood and it died

Mildred Rybacki-December 23, 1921-January 3, 2012--RIP Mom and thank you!

You never hear about a heart attack like this, but this is really what happens. Life-giving blood flow is blocked to part of the heart and that part dies. Heart attacks come in two kinds, UA/NSTEMI (Unstable Angina/ Non-St Elevation Myocardial Infarction) and STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction).

The problem behind a heart attack is partly cholesterol, partly high blood pressure, partly hardening of the arteries(calcium buildup or arteriosclerosis), sometimes abnormal heart beats like atrial fibrillation,  partial rupture of a cholesterol build up and partly a blood clot often started by platelets. WOW…this is complicated.

The American Heart Association keeps statistics on this. Many years, more women than men die from heart attacks. Regardless of gender, combination treatment is required to get things on track and certainly to avoid a second heart attack. Some patients think that because they got new heart plumbing in the form of a tube called a stent, or even a bypass and a new blood vessel, they can take their medicines some of the time. This simply isn’t true. You need to STOP the abnormal cholesterol and high blood pressure from clogging up that stent or bypass vessel!

Bring in the big guns early!

Be sure to talk to your doctor and pharmacist about all the pills you take and talk to your doc about drug safety, side effects, and potentially harmful drug interactions. Take a deep breath, and I'll help you navigate through what can often be a confusing combination of medical news, the latest treatments, the FDA removing drugs from the market, new guidelines, research and the ever changing world of prescription drugs! Also remember--Fat is very active as an endocrine organ. It doesn't just sit there. Fat is creating bad chemicals and is inflammatory. Inflammation adds to vulnerability of existing clogs and needs to be stopped. think of that belly as a potential fat attack and stop it!

I am Dr. James Rybacki [author of The Essential Guide to Prescription Drugs] and YOUR personal advocate and guide through the confusing – and potentially dangerous – world of illness, prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs (OTC), herbs and herbal supplements!  My videos, information packets, newsletters and books will explain medical terminology, treatment options and drug use/safety in clear, easy to understand language.

While other sites provide drug information, I go beyond the basics and concentrate on possible drug interactions, minor AND serious potential side effects, safety of the drug with pregnant or nursing women—in short, more than 40 categories of information in the Essential Guide to Prescription Drug profiles. Remember, your involvement in your own treatment and recovery WILL make a difference! Insist that YOU and YOUR Family are the center of the medical team–become an informed, educated patient!

I'll show you how and keep you up to date as the research and medicines change!

All the best,

Dr. Jim
