Millions of us have trouble sleeping, some have trouble falling asleep, some wake up and can't fall back to sleep and many of us don't get enough sleep. The FDA has approved a new form of zolpidem (the active medicine in Ambien) for people who wake up in the middle of the night and simply can't fall back to sleep.
The new drug is called Intermezzo and has 1.75 mg of zolpidem for women and 3.5 mg for men. This is the first time a medicine for this kind of sleeplessness has been approved. The benefit of this lower dose is that it can be taken if you have as little as 4 hours left to get some sleep!
