Cholesterol puzzles: Apolipoprotein A1 and investigational anacetrapib

Like this surf board, HDL (the good cholesterol) carries the bad stuff to the liver. A major protein component of HDL is apolipoprotein A1. This protein works to promote transition of cholesterol from the tissues where it can safely be taken to the liver to make useful compounds that the body needs!

Anacetrapib is an investigational compound that appears to increase Apo A1 and may also have anticlotting benefits! This whole Reverse Cholesterol Transport (RCT) process is part of how we manage cholesterol and may be a key topic at the upcoming American Heart Association meeting in Chicago, November 12-16th. Dr. Rybacki will be at the convention and will be actively tweeting news at rybackiknows on twitter!
