New test for Alzheimer's may give us an early wake up call

The FDA approved a new agent for detecting Alzheimer's early. The PET scan agent is called florbetapir (Amyvid) and it just may be a new ticket to early detection and treatment !!!

PET scans or Positron Emission Tomography can help see brain activity and substances in the brain. Amyvid helps detect the amyloid proteins that are associated with Alzheimer's. If your doctor can know that you have a significant amount of these proteins in the brain, they can prescribe a medicine to slow the progression of Alzheimer's. Great new science!
